Kim Ki Duk Wins at Cannes

Posted on: May 21, 2011

Woah, un certain regard went to kim ki duk.  He’s sharing it with Andreas Dresden (ugh I hate when Cannes does this.)  I love Kim’s work and I never understood the harsh criticism he gets from Korea.  Actually I suspect its because many of his films highlight the marginalized parts of Korean society and what Koreans hate more than Apollo Ohno is someone calling them out on their shit.  Its actually more complicated than that but this isn’t about his failures in Korea but his awesomeness in France.  Not bad for a dude who had had no formal training in making films.  Oh if only I could work with him.  Sigh~
